About IRENE

Irene Cara was a New York-born singer, actress, and dancer whose sound ranged from disco-inflected R&B to pop balladry — best known for recording "Fame" and "Flashdance… What a Feeling," the latter of which won her an Oscar and a Grammy in 1984. She passed away in November 2022, so any live billing under her name warrants close attention to what exactly is being presented. If this is a tribute or archival screening event, her catalogue holds up — those two songs alone defined the sound of early-80s soundtrack pop.
