About Tortoise

Tortoise are a Chicago post-rock band whose instrumental sound draws on krautrock repetition, math rock precision, and slow-burning grooves that sit closer to a late-night jazz club than a guitar arena. Their 1996 album Millions Now Living Will Never Die is widely credited with helping define what post-rock could be, and they've spent three decades refining that blueprint without softening it. Live, the band typically runs two or three drummers simultaneously, which shifts the whole dynamic from record to stage in ways worth seeing firsthand.
