About Tray Wellington

Tray Wellington is an American banjo player rooted in bluegrass and newgrass, bringing technical precision and progressive ideas to a tradition that doesn't always welcome them. He released his debut album Black Banjo in 2022, a record that drew attention for centering Black identity within a genre that has historically obscured its African American roots. His live sets are built around his banjo work, which tends to run fast and intricate — worth catching if instrumental chops are what you're there for.
