Paradise Lost

Paradise Lost are a Halifax band formed in 1988 whose catalogue moves from death/doom foundations through gothic metal and into darker, more atmospheric territory — drawing on gothic rock and doom in roughly equal measure. They are widely credited, alongside Anathema and My Dying Bride, with shaping both the death/doom and gothic metal subgenres, and their 35-year back catalogue runs deep enough that any setlist will reward fans who know the records. A band with that much history tends to perform with real purpose rather than spectacle, so if you follow the genre at all, the chance to see them in a smaller room is worth taking.
