Mayer Hawthorne

Mayer Hawthorne is a singer, producer and multi-instrumentalist from Ann Arbor, Michigan, whose retro soul and pop soul draws on the Detroit sound of Smokey Robinson, Curtis Mayfield and the Holland-Dozier-Holland songwriting team. He came up on the Stones Throw label, where his falsetto-led, Motown-style records sat alongside the label's hip-hop and funk catalogue. He also records and performs as a DJ and in a funk-leaning side project, so his sets can range from crisp throwback soul to dancefloor-oriented grooves.
