About the Artist

Kroi is a Tokyo band formed in 2018 whose sound blends funk, R&B, rock and hip-hop, drawing on black music traditions and filtering them through a distinctly Japanese pop sensibility. The name plays on "kuroi," the Japanese word for black, and reflects their idea that mixing every genre, like mixing every color, produces something original. Their songs have crossed into anime soundtracks, which gives their groove-heavy, genre-hopping approach a wider audience than a typical Tokyo club band, and their catalogue is a good fit for anyone who likes funk and neo-soul played with a rock band's looseness.
