Dream Theater
About the Artist
Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band formed in 1985 in Boston by John Petrucci, John Myung and Mike Portnoy, who met at Berklee College of Music and started out under the name Majesty. Their long, technically dense compositions draw on both prog rock and heavy metal, and the lineup of Petrucci, Myung, James LaBrie and Jordan Rudess was joined again by Portnoy in 2023, after his 2010 departure. With four decades of material to draw from, their shows tend to run long and favor extended instrumental passages, so they suit anyone who likes to hear this kind of playing done live.
