Carl Stone

Carl Stone is an American composer who has worked in live electronics and musique concrète since 1972, building dense, disorienting pieces from sampled and processed sound — closer to plunderphonics and electroacoustic collage than anything resembling conventional electronic music. A student of Morton Subotnick and James Tenney at CalArts, he has spent decades performing across the US, Europe, Asia, and beyond, and is currently based in Japan where he teaches at Chukyo University. His live sets are constructed in real time on laptop, so the process of transformation is visible — worth attending if you're curious how far source material can be stretched before it dissolves entirely.
