About the Artist

สุรชัย จันทิมาธร, known as หงา คาราวาน (Nga Caravan), is a Thai singer-songwriter from the south whose music draws on phleng phuea chiwit ("songs for life"), luk thung, and southern Thai folk traditions. He co-founded the band Caravan in the 1970s, which became a defining voice of Thailand's protest-era folk-rock, and he has continued to write socially minded songs for decades since. A set from him is a chance to hear that songbook performed by its author, one of the key figures in the genre.
