Kiefer Shackelford is a Los Angeles keyboardist and producer who blends jazz harmony with hip-hop beats — his records feel closer to late-night improvisation than to beat tape convention. His 2019 album Between Days on Stones Throw Records brought wider attention to his approach of looping acoustic piano over slow-rolling rhythms. Live, he typically performs solo at the keys, which makes the real-time construction of those layered grooves worth watching up close.
