WAAJEED

Waajeed (Robert O'Bryant) is a Detroit producer and DJ from Conant Gardens who moves between instrumental hip-hop, beats and dance-floor-minded house and techno. He got his start in the city's DJ circuit before producing in 2000, landing tracks on Slum Village's Trinity (Past, Present and Future), co-founding the group Platinum Pied Pipers, and launching the Bling47 label in 2002, which put out work by J Dilla. In 2012 he started the Dirt Tech Reck label, and his later collaborators include Theo Parrish, Amp Fiddler and Mad Mike Banks, which gives his DJ sets a direct line to Detroit's hip-hop and club lineages at once.
