About the Artist

Sun Kil Moon is the solo project of Mark Kozelek, former frontman of Red House Painters, built around slow-moving, densely lyrical folk and indie rock that tends toward long, confessional songs with fingerpicked guitar at the centre. Kozelek launched the project in 2002 and has since released a sprawling catalogue, with Benji (2014) drawing wide critical attention for its blunt, plainspoken storytelling about death and memory. If you follow his work closely, a rare live appearance is worth catching for the detail in his guitar playing and the way the arrangements shift between intimate and overwhelming.
