Santa Esmeralda is a Franco-American disco project whose 1977 recordings — most famously a 17-minute flamenco-disco reworking of "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" — fused Spanish guitar and orchestral strings with dancefloor-ready grooves in a way that still sounds distinct from the era's mainstream disco. That track was later sampled by Tarantino for the *Kill Bill* soundtrack, which introduced the group to a new generation decades after their original run.
