About the Artist

Mac Martin was a Pittsburgh bluegrass musician who played mandolin across seven decades, leading his long-running band The Dixie Travelers from 1954 onward while working as an accountant by day. He was born William Colleran in 1925 and took the stage name Mac Martin early in his career to avoid confusion in a band that already had too many Bills. He passed away in February 2022 at 96, so any billing under his name today warrants a close look at who is actually on the lineup.
