About the Artist

Ken Ueno is an American composer, throat singer and sound artist born in 1970 and raised in Bronxville, New York, who writes and performs experimental music built from overlooked and often rejected sounds. His vocal work draws on heavy metal sub-tone singing, European avant-garde instrumental techniques and American experimentalism, and he teaches composition at UC Berkeley, where he also co-directs the Minimum Security Composers Collective. Expect something closer to a new-music or sound art performance than a standard gig, with extended vocal techniques at the center of the set.
