Baby J

Baby J is a UK hip-hop producer who splits his time between the UK and New York, working in a soulful, boom-bap-rooted style. An A&R from the Wu-Tang camp picked up one of his demos in 1995, which led to his first release, a 12" with Shabazz the Disciple on Penalty Records, and later mixtape production for Brand Nubian, Dead Prez and Imam Thug. His 1998 solo album The Birth, on Bomb Hip Hop, brought together US and UK emcees, which gives a good sense of the transatlantic, rap-first approach he brings to a live set.
